The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of the operations of Enel S.p.A. of Italy in Romania (‘Enel Romania’) by Public Power Corporation S.A. (‘PPC’) of Greece.
Enel Romania is active in the generation, distribution and supply of electricity, as well as in the supply of natural gas in Romania and the provision of related services. PPC is active in the generation, supply and distribution of electricity, mainly in Greece.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given the absence of overlaps between the companies’ activities.
The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission’s competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.11103.
