The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Trelleborg Wheel Systems Holding AB (‘TWS’) of Sweden by Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd (‘YRC’) of Japan.
Both TWS and YRC manufacture and supply off-highway tyres that they sell to original equipment manufacturers, wholesalers and dealers. TWS is also active in the retail distribution of replacement tyres through its subsidiary Interfit.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns given that a number of credible competitors, which have been expanding and are likely to continue to expand in the European Economic Area, will remain active on the markets. In addition, TWS and YRC are not particularly close competitors.
