Brussels, 20 March 2023

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Camden B.V. of the Netherlands by EP Power Europe, a.s. (‘EPPE’) of Czechia.

Camden is active in the Netherlands in the generation and wholesale supply of electricity, the provision of certain balancing and ancillary services, financial electricity trading and gas trading on a hub. EPPE belongs to the EPH Group, which is a vertically integrated energy utility company operating mainly in Czechia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland the UK. Their activities overlap in particular because both operate power plants in the Netherlands.

The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given the companies’ limited combined market position resulting from the proposed transaction. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

More information is available on the Commission’s competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.11036.
