SEDE delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina

From 20 to 23 February, a Security and Defence Subcommittee delegation will go to Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the EU’s military operation Althea and the security situation in the country. MEPs will meet with members of the Tripartite Presidency and the new government, parliamentarians and representatives of the international and think tank community.

DEVE delegation to Washington, D.C.

A delegation of five members from the Committee on Development, chaired by Tomas Tobé, will travel to Washington DC. The purpose of the delegation visit is to engage with the US, as well as with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, civil society organisations and think-tanks, on the crises in Sub-Saharan Africa and developing countries in other parts of the world. Members will discuss with key actors how the international community responds to this. Members will have the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders on the recently adopted US Africa strategy. In addition to this, the mission will have a strong focus on recovery initiatives and debt relief for developing countries with visits to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, two central institutions in the fight against poverty.

REGI mission to Lapland

A delegation of four MEPs of the REGI committee is set to visit Lapland, one of the EU´s northernmost regions in Finland. During a five-day trip from 20 to 24 February, three MEPs, led by their chair Younous Omarjee (The Left, FR), will have the opportunity to visit the city of Rovaniemi, discuss the use of EU regional development funds with local, regional and national authorities, learn about the role of Lapland in the regional development and assess cross-border cooperation among Nordic countries in the area. Alert

JURI-AGRI mission to EUIPO in Alicante

A delegation of ten MEPs representing both JURI and AGRI committees and led by the Chair of the JURI Committee Adrián Vázquez Lázara (Renew, ES) will visit the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain on 21-23 February. During a three-day mission, MEPs will discuss the upcoming legislation on geographical indication protection in the EU with experts and representatives of EUIPO. PECH delegation to Ecuador

Fisheries committee to follow-up on the “yellow card” procedure in Ecuador. Delegation will visit Ecuadorian ports, factories and meet with representatives of the sector and national authorities from 22 to 24 February.

COVI delegation to South Africa and Ethiopia

Between 20 and 22 February in Cape Town, a delegation of eight members from the special committee on the COVID-19 pandemic, led by Chair Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&D, BE), will exchange views with representatives from the South African ministry of health, as well as with members of the national parliament dealing with health, trade and international relations. MEPs will also visit the Biovac pharmaceutical company, manufacturing and distributing COVID-19 vaccines in Africa, and the WHO mRNA vaccine technology transfer hub. On 23 and 24 February in Addis-Ababa, members will exchange with representatives from the African Union, the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the WHO and the Red Cross.
