Brussels, 28 November 2022

Tomorrow, Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela, will open the 2022 Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) Assembly in Prague. The SME Assembly is the centrepiece of the European SME Week. It is a yearly gathering of entrepreneurs, policy makers and business organisations and is the most significant event for Europe’s SMEs.

The SME Assembly will host the tenth edition of the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards, which are jointly organised by the Commission, the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) and EuropeanIssuers. These awards promote best practices and encourage more SMEs to access capital markets via initial public offerings. The European Enterprise Promotion Awards are organised by the Commission and reward national, regional, or local authorities or public-private partnerships from the EU and several other countries which have promoted entrepreneurship and small business at the national, regional or local level.

The conference lasts two days and will be attended by over 500 delegates in person and many more online. This year, the SME Assembly will focus on: finding solutions for SMEs facing difficulties linked to the economic effects of high energy prices, the disruption of supply chains and the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; how to make Europe’s enterprises of tomorrow sustainable, resilient and digital; developing concrete suggestions to be included in the SME Relief Package that is currently being prepared by the Commission.

More information on the event, as well as on the winners of the two awards can be found on the SME Assembly website.
