Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson travels to Latvia and Finland to discuss the security and migration situation in the region. The Commissioner is in Riga tomorrow, where she will meet with the Minister of the Interior, Kristaps Eklons to discuss the reception situation, arrival of Russian citizens, the EU’s visa policy, as well as the general situation at the borders with Belarus and Russia.
Commissioner Johansson will also meet with the Director of the Constitution Protection Bureau, Egils Zviedris and several members of the Parliament from the European Affairs Committee and the Citizenship, Migration and Social Cohesion Committee. On Thursday, Commissioner Johansson will be in Finland, where together with the Minister of the Interior, Krista Mikkonen, she will visit the Joutseno Reception Centre to discuss the challenges on the EU’s eastern border, cooperation with the Russian Border Guard Service and combatting human trafficking in Finland.
On Friday, after the visit to the the Nuijamaa Border Crossing Point, the Commissioner will hold a press point that can be followed online at 10:30 EEST. In the afternoon, Commissioner Johansson will meet the Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin. In the margins of the mission she will also hold a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Kirsi Pimiä, and Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service, Antti Pelttari, to discuss cybersecurity and potential hybrid threats for the border management.
