In the hearing, Juha Kotilainen and Tuija Mononen from the University of Eastern Finland will present their upcoming study, “Environmental and social impacts of mining activity in the EU”, due to be published in early 2022.
After the presentation, three related topics will be discussed:
- “Mining legislation, safety standards, social and environmental impacts of mines” with Dr. Steven H. Emerman
- “Environmental citizenship, public participation and transparency in the mining sector in the EU” with Dr. Alexander Dunlap (University of Oslo, Centre for Development and the Environment)
- “Experiences in addressing environmental and social impacts of the mining sector at EU level (NGOs)” with Dr. Elena Solis (NGO “Ecologistas en Acción”)
