On 6 September ANIT organises a public hearing on “Alternatives to long-distance live animal transport and farmers’ experience of the shift to alternatives”. It will provide members with an overview of and insights into alternatives to long-distance animal transport, such as on-farm slaughter, mobile slaughter, meat-and-carcass transport, as well the transport of genetic material.
Particular attention will also be paid to relevant local infrastructures, such as slaughterhouses, and the role Rural Development and the Common Agricultural Policy play. Farmers and other involved stakeholders have been invited to share their inside and experiences in this regard.
