ICC Pre-Trial Chamber issues warrants of arrest for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant

On 21 November 2024, Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (‘Court’), in its composition for the Situation in the State of Palestine, unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the State of Israel (‘Israel’) brought under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute (the ‘Statute’). It also issued warrants of arrest for Mr Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr Yoav Gallant.

Romania: EU Commission approves €578m state aid to support energy-intensive companies

The EU Commission has approved a €578 million (RON 2.9 billion) Romanian state aid scheme to lower an electricity levy rate for energy-intensive companies. The levy is intended to promote electricity from renewable energy sources. The scheme aims at mitigating the risk that, due to this levy, energy-intensive companies may relocate their activities to locations outside the EU with less ambitious climate policies.

The EU Commission today adopted guidelines to promote the right of persons with disabilities to live independently and to be integrated into the community. The guidance provides practical recommendations to Member States on the use of EU funds to accelerate the transition from institutional care to community-based services and independent living for people with disabilities.

EU production of bicycles down to 9.7 million in 2023

In 2023, 9.7 million bicycles were produced in the EU, a 24% decrease in bicycle production compared with 2022 (12.7 million). Looking at the available non-confidential data, the biggest producer of bicycles in 2023 was Portugal, with 1.8 million units, followed by Romania (1.5 million), Italy (1.2 million) and Poland (0.8 million).

EU Council adopts ban on products made with forced labour

The EU Council has today adopted a regulation prohibiting products in the Union market that are made using forced labour. The text forbids the placing and making available on the Union market, or the export from the Union market, of any product made using forced labour. This is the last step in the decision-making procedure.
