The fifth meeting of the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly (PPA), established by the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and agreed in December 2020, will be opened by the new co-chairs, MEP Sandro Gozi (Renew Europe, France) and UK MP Marsha de Cordova.

They will also discuss EU-UK foreign policy and security cooperation in light of Russia’s continued war against Ukraine and growing geopolitical uncertainties, as well as trade and opportunities for young people on both sides of the English Channel.

Speakers expected to speak at the Assembly include European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Nick-Thomas Symonds, UK Paymaster General, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Minister for the Constitution and European Union Relations.

Background

The EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly was created following the entry into force of the new Trade and Cooperation Agreement in January 2021. It acts as a forum for the European Parliament and the UK Parliament to exchange views on EU-UK relations. It can also request information from the Partnership Council – the main joint EU-UK body overseeing the implementation of the TCA – and make recommendations to it.

The Partnership Council is currently chaired by Maroš Šefčovič and Nick-Thomas Symonds.
