Research

On Friday morning ministers will take part in a half-day session on research issues.

Research and competitiveness

Ministers responsible for research are expected to adopt Council conclusions on strengthening the competitiveness of the EU and overcoming the fragmentation of the European Research Area based on the experiences implementing the ERA Policy Agenda (2022-2024).

Natural resources and bioeconomy in central and eastern Europe

Ministers are expected to adopt Council conclusions on a potential Europe-wide research and innovation initiative on advancing sustainable natural resource management, food systems security and the deployment of the bioeconomy, harnessing the potential of Central and Eastern Europe (BIOEAST, partnership). BIOEAST (the Central-Eastern European Initiative for Knowledge-based Agriculture, Aquaculture and Forestry in the Bioeconomy) was established in 2015 to establish a strategic research and innovation framework to work towards sustainable bioeconomy in Central and Eastern European countries.

Advanced materials

Ministers will be invited to approve Council conclusions on the Commission’s communication on advanced materials.

The contribution of research and innovation to the competitiveness of the EU

Ministers will hold a discussion on the contribution of research and innovation to the competitiveness of the European Union: follow up to the recommendations of the Draghi report.

Sustainable research infrastructures

Over lunch, ministers will exchange views on sustainable European research infrastructures.

 

Any other business

The Polish delegation will brief ministers on the programme for their upcoming presidency in the field of research.

 

Space

On Friday afternoon, ministers responsible for space policy will resume the COMPET Council meeting with a half-day session.

Reinforcing European competencies in the space sector

Ministers are expected to approve Council conclusions on reinforcing European competencies in the space sector.

 

Midterm assessment of the Space Programme

Ministers are expected to approve Council conclusions on the mid-term assessment of the Space Programme.

 

The future of the Union’s space policy

Ministers will hold a policy debate on the future of the Union’s space policy.

 

AOB

The incoming Polish presidency will present its work programme in the field of space.
