Kyiv, 31 March 2025
Ukraine offers foreign businesses a wide range of investment opportunities in the most promising areas. This was emphasised by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a business forum with representatives of Austrian business circles held in Kyiv.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government noted that investment in Ukraine was a contribution to the future of the EU, and that Ukrainian reconstruction would be the largest such project in Europe in the last 80 years.
According to Denys Shmyhal, the energy sector is one of the strategic areas that may be attractive to investors.
“We plan to develop nuclear power, invest in the green transition, and expand electricity trade with European countries. Ukraine has the second largest gas reserves on the continent and the largest gas storage facilities in Europe. And this infrastructure requires large-scale modernisation and investment,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Critical raw materials are another important area of cooperation in which Ukraine and the EU signed a memorandum of partnership in 2021. Denys Shmyhal expressed confidence that cooperation in this area will bring mutual benefits.
According to Denys Shmyhal, the construction and infrastructure sector is also promising: “Now and after the war is over, we need a huge amount of construction materials and new technologies. This applies to the recovery and construction of housing, roads, bridges, railways, social infrastructure”.
The Prime Minister stressed that investments in the defence industry were beneficial as well.
“Ukraine is investing billions of dollars in this sector. We are opening R&D centres and contributing to modern dual-use technologies. We look forward to close cooperation with our partners in this regard,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister called the agricultural sector not only a highly profitable business, but also an element of global food security.
“Our ambition is to become a global hub for processing agricultural products,” he stressed.
The Head of Government noted that Ukraine is one of the leaders in the digitalisation of public services, and Ukrainian expertise in cybersecurity is recognised worldwide. In addition, our country ranks second among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the number of companies working on the development of artificial intelligence. That is why, according to Denys Shmyhal, investments in the digitalisation and hi-tech sector are advantageous and guarantee access to leading technologies and highly qualified specialists.
