The Left in the European Parliament expresses its absolute revulsion and outrage at the indications of atrocities and war crimes in the town of Bucha, Ukraine.
Pictures of civilian bodies lying dead in the streets and signs of massacre and torture have surfaced from the town, 30 kilometers northwest of Kyiv, following its month-long occupation by Russian troops.
Left Co-Presidents Martin Schirdewan and Manon Aubry:
“Our thoughts lie with the victims and their loved ones at this time of unimaginable suffering and devastation. Putin must be held accountable for his appalling war crimes, which must be investigated by the relevant international courts. The EU must step up sanctions against oligarchs and the Kremlin regime, making them stronger and more effective to force Putin to stop his war. These atrocities must urgently make the agenda of this week’s European Parliament plenary session to discuss effective responses to end this brutality.”
