With representatives of the US and the UN, MEPs discuss geopolitical priorities such as establishing a new EU-US defence dialogue, Afghanistan, the Indo-Pacific region, Russia and Africa.

A six-Member delegation of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE), led by the Chair Nathalie Loiseau (Renew, FR), will visit the US (Washington, DC and New York) on 1-5 November.

In Washington, the MEPs will meet Members of Congress, representatives of the US administration, and figures from the DC think tank community. They will discuss EU-US security and defence cooperation and dialogue, EU-NATO cooperation and some geopolitical priorities such as Afghanistan, the Indo-Pacific region, Ukraine/Russia and Africa.

In New York, the MEPs will meet high-ranking officials of the United Nations, including the President of the 76th UN General Assembly, and permanent representatives of a number of UN members. The focus of their discussions will be on EU-UN security and defence partnership including peacekeeping cooperation, multilateral disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation, cyber security and Africa with a particular focus on the Sahel and concerns over the destabilising role of the Private Military and Security Company known as the Wagner Group.
