Brussels, 1 Paril 2025

Today, the European Commission launched an open public consultation to lay the groundwork for the renewed LGBTIQ Equality Strategy post-2025. This consultation will gather views from citizens and trade unions, to businesses, and academia. The strategy will promote and safeguard equal rights for all people across the EU. Promoting equality for all, regardless of people’s sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or sex characteristics, ensures a fair, democratic and safe society, and will boost our economy by drawing on everyone’s abilities and talent.

Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, said: “Promoting the rights of one, is to defend the freedom of all. The LGBTIQ community is facing growing attempts to roll back their rights. We must stand tall together to defend the right of each and every one of us to be ourselves free from discrimination. The Commission is proud to renew its commitment to LGBTIQ rights with a new LGBTIQ Equality Strategy, and this starts by gathering the views of all concerned, citizens, authorities, civil society and businesses alike.”

The strategy aims to build on the accomplishments of the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025 whilst addressing key challenges, including violence and harassment, both offline and online, as well as banning conversion practices. The consultation will be open and accessible here: EU LGBTIQ equality strategy for 2026-2030.
