Brussels, 29 July 2022

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of the grain and ingredients business of Gavilon, of the US, by Viterra Limited of the Netherlands. Gavilon is active in the origination, storage, handling, logistics, marketing, and distribution of grains and ingredients. Viterra is also active in the marketing of grains. Their activities overlap in particular in connection with the supply of wheat in Italy, as well as corn and rye in Spain. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given the companies’ limited combined market position  and the presence of a number of competitors on each of these markets. The transaction was examined under the normal merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission’s competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.10659.
