On Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Security and Defence will discuss the impact of Russian military doctrine and actions in the region covered by the Eastern Partnership.
In a hearing with Dr Maryna Vorotnyuk, a research fellow at the International security studies at the Royal United Services Institute and Mykhailo Samus, director of the New Geopolitics Research Network, MEPs want to examine the renewed Russian National Security Strategy as well as the role of the Wagner Group in developments in the Eastern Partnership area.
The increasing role of the Russian Wagner group as element of a destabilising strategy in Africa, will be discussed in a separate debate that will follow immediately afterwards.
A public hearing on Security in the Eastern Partnership area: the impact of Russian military doctrine, force posture and capability development will be held in the context of the upcoming own-initiative committee report on “Security within the Eastern Partnership and the role of the Common Security and Defence Policy”.
