The Committee on Legal Affairs together with the EP Coordinator on Children’s Rights organised a public hearing entitled “Child protection under EU law” on Monday 28 June at 16:45-18:45 h.
The main purpose of this hearing was to investigate the needs of children who find themselves facing civil, family or administrative proceedings and to explore how to achieve best practices in addressing these needs through EU law and policy, and in particular effective child-friendly justice.
This event addressed cross-border cooperation between judicial systems and other authorities involved in proceedings concerning children. Finally, the hearing explored how mediation, as a child-friendly tool, can help solve family disputes including those of a cross-border nature.
The outcome and discussion from this hearing will contribute to the own-initiative report entitled “Protecting the rights of the child in civil, administrative and family law proceedings”.
