Brussels, 25 April 2025

A new European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures will ensure that researchers, innovators, and industry in Europe have access to cutting-edge facilities and services. These will support scientific and technological excellence and industrial competitiveness. To this end, the Commission has invited all interested stakeholders to contribute to the development of the future Strategy. It will strengthen the sustainability, accessibility, and efficiency of European research and technology infrastructures. It will also ensure that they remain at the forefront of scientific and technological advances.

Ekaterina Zaharieva, EU Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, said:

Europe’s research and technology infrastructures are the foundation of our innovation ecosystem. We invite researchers, policymakers, business leaders and all interested parties to share their ideas and help shape the future of these infrastructures, to ensure the EU’s prosperity and industrial leadership.

As home to the world’s most advanced research infrastructures, Europe boasts a diverse, well-developed, and growing portfolio of technology infrastructure. These facilities provide much-needed scientific and technological capabilities for researchers and industry, from facilitating excellence in basic science to testing and improving innovative technologies. They are also essential for attracting and retaining global scientific talent. At the same time, their activities foster local innovation ecosystems, where research and technology organizations, innovative start-ups, large-scale companies, and small and medium-sized enterprises thrive.

Strengthening research and technology infrastructure is one of the Commission’s priorities for preserving and boosting Europe’s prosperity and competitiveness, as well as a priority within the framework of the European Research Area .

The call for contributions will be open on the “ Have Your Say ” portal until May 22, 2025. You will find more information online.
