Answer given by Mr Lenarčič
on behalf of the European Commission
(16.8.2022)
The EU is further increasing the overall European level of preparedness by financing the purchase of additional firefighting capacities via the RescEU programme1. This is not a capacity-building programme, but a safety net (or “last resort”) for countries overwhelmed by an extraordinary situation.
The EU is planning to finance twelve medium scooping planes and nine medium helicopters under the current Multi-annual Financial Framework (2021-2027). While Slovenia will not be hosting RescEU capacities itself, it will benefit, in case of need, from two RescEU planes hosted in Croatia and two others in Italy, as a first response. Additional scooping aircraft will be available in Portugal, Spain, France and Greece. The helicopters will be hosted by Northern and Eastern Member States.
