Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson will be in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 14 and 15 November to take part in COP29, the United Nations climate change conference.
As part of the COP29 Energy Day on Friday, the Commissioner will deliver a speech at the EU-US Global Methane Pledge Ministerial Event and speak at the OGMP 2.0 CEO Forum on industry efforts to improve the monitoring, reporting and verification of methane emissions. Yesterday, the Commission introduced a new Methane Reduction Partnership Roadmap to strengthen cooperation between fossil fuel importing and exporting countries (see here).
Support for Ukraine is also high on Commissioner Simson’s agenda in Baku. On Thursday, the Commissioner will co-host a ministerial meeting with the Energy Community. On Friday, she will deliver a speech at an event entitled “Ukraine’s recovery towards a green, sustainable and resilient energy system”.
Commissioner Simson will also hold a bilateral meeting with UK Climate Minister Kerry McCarthy.
