Brussels, 7 April 2025
From Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 April, Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth, Wopke Hoekstra, will be in Brazil to strengthen the EU’s cooperation with the COP30 Presidency in view of the UN Climate Change Conference in November. This trip follows the Petersberg Climate Dialogue held in March. The Commissioner will also discuss with national authorities and civil society climate action and progress made in the country on the green transition.
On Monday, Commissioner Hoekstra will meet with the Minister of Indigenous People, Sonia Guajajara. He will also speak at an event organised by the French Ambassy called “Amazonia, the heart of Mother Earth”, in partnership with FUNAI Fundação Nacional dos Povos Indígenas (National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples). The next day he will have bilateral meetings in Brasilia with COP30 President-designate, André Corrêa do Lago; Vice-President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin; Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva; and the President of the Senate Environment Committee and Senator for the Espírito Santo State, Fabiano Contarato.
On Wednesday, he will meet Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. Then, the Commissioner will leave to São Paulo where he will meet with the private sector to discuss the new EU Clean Industrial Deal and green investments. In the afternoon, he will participate in a roundtable with Brazilian Climate NGOs and think-tanks.
