Tomorrow, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen will attend the opening ceremony of Grüne Woche in Berlin and deliver a keynote speech. The Berlin International Green Week is an annual international trade fair for the food, agriculture and horticulture sectors. During his tour of the fair, he will also visit the institutional stand of the European Commission under the theme ‘A Competitive, Fair and Sustainable Agriculture for Europe’. He will also meet with the German Farmers’ Association and the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE).
On 18 January, Commissioner Hansen will attend the plenary session of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture and meet with German Minister for Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir. The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture is an annual international conference that addresses key issues for the future of global agriculture and food policy. It brings together experts, politicians, scientists, businesses and civil society to develop solutions for future food security. On the margins of the event, he will meet the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitalii Koval and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova Ludmila Catlabuga.
Ahead of his visit, Commissioner Hansen said: “I am delighted that my first visit to Germany as Commissioner of Agriculture and Food is to attend the Grüne Woche and the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture. These two events bring the issues of agriculture and food to the spotlight and are a unique opportunity to find out more about the richness of German agrifood production and culinary heritage, but also to meet agriculture ministers from across the world. I invite all visitors of the Grüne Woche to go and visit the EU stand to learn more about what the EU does for the farming and food sector and enjoy tastings and interactive games.”
