Following the European Digital Identity Framework, the Commission has adopted five implementing regulations, laying down rules for the core functionalities and the certification of the European Digital Identity Wallets.

The Wallets are based on the European Digital Identity (eID) and will offer a universal, trustworthy and secure way for citizens to not only identify themselves when accessing public and private services but to also allow them to store digital documents and have complete control over how their data is handled by both private and public organisations.
