Rio de Janeiro, 26 November 2024

In a dynamic effort to advance global climate solutions, a bilateral strategic Think Tank Dialogue was launched in Rio de Janeiro, uniting top policy experts, researchers, and innovators under a shared vision of sustainability and socio-environmental justice.

Inspired by the EU Delegation and organised in partnership with the Brazilian Centre for International Relations (CEBRI), the dialogue represents a new milestone in strengthening EU-Brazil cooperation, bringing leading minds together to redefine globalisation through a socio-environmental lens.

This high-level forum aims to strengthen policy alignment, promote innovative solutions, and foster collaboration ahead of critical climate milestones like COP30, to be hosted in Brazil in 2025.

Launching a bold agenda for global climate leadership

The dialogue’s launch set the stage for strategic discussions on urgent challenges, including deforestation, energy transition, and green finance. Participants spotlighted Brazil’s pivotal role in shaping global climate governance, emphasizing its leadership on international efforts to align climate and economic policies.

“This Think Tank Dialogue is not just a conversation; it is a call to think outside-the-box and bring fresh ideas to the table” said to participants Laurent Javaudin, Climate counsellor at the EU Delegation to Brazil. “By uniting your expertise, you have the capacity to recommend concrete solutions that will ensure a socially just and sustainable global transition.”

Driving impactful solutions through partnership

The dialogue emphasized practical pathways to tackle shared challenges:

  • Strengthening sustainable supply chains through enhanced traceability systems and technology transfer.
  • Mobilizing green investments to support reindustrialization and promote innovation.
  • Building local capacity to ensure the energy transition is inclusive and equitable.

Discussions also highlighted the European Green Deal as a model for transformative action, with an emphasis on how its principles could inspire Brazil’s own climate and socio-economic strategies.

A Platform for long-term collaboration

This dialogue marks the beginning of an ambitious agenda to deepen EU-Brazil cooperation. By uniting think tanks, policymakers, and private sector leaders, the initiative seeks to drive actionable change, laying the foundation for impactful policies and projects that prioritize equity and sustainability.

As the first in a planned series, this dialogue promises to become a cornerstone of the EU-Brazil partnership, fostering bold leadership in the global fight against climate change. Together, the EU and Brazil are proving that by bridging continents, they can forge a path toward a greener, fairer, and more resilient world.
