“Transatlantic collaboration on new technologies is fundamental for Europe’s competitiveness. It is vital that our shared democratic values continue setting the norm for the global market”, said Christian Ehler MEP, the EPP Group Spokesman on Research, Industry and Energy.
Today, the EU and the US announced a wide-ranging partnership around technology and trade. The EU-US Trade and Technology Council will help both sides of the Atlantic to work together in promoting standards around new technologies, and to make commitments to improve regulations in the digital world.
The EU proposed the initiative in December 2020. “Technological development is so rapidly evolving that we need to keep a continuous, steady conversation going. I am happy the Biden Administration has now accepted the European invitation for structural collaboration through the Trade and Technology Council as a platform for this exchange. The Parliament will diligently play its role”, promised Ehler.
The EPP Group has already started the exchange of ideas with the US. On 15 April 2021, the EPP Group invited the Assistant Deputy Secretary, Christopher Hoff, to take part in a discussion on the future of data during the EPP Data Summit.
