MEPs have greenlit the appointment of five candidates for the EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) Executive Board.
On Thursday, the Civil Liberties and Economic Affairs committees held public hearings with the five shortlisted candidates. You can re-watch the questions and answers here.
After the hearings, they approved the five appointments by secret ballot. Vote results:
- Mr Simonas Krepsta: 76 in favour, 2 against, 2 abstentions
- Ms Rikke-Louise Ørum Petersen: 77 in favour, 0 against, 2 abstentions
- Mr Marcus Pleyer: 78 in favour, 1 against, 1 abstention
- Ms Derville Rowland: 79 in favour, 0 against, 1 abstention
- Mr Juan-Manuel Vega Serrano: 78 in favour, 1 against, 1 abstention
Next steps
Next, the Conference of Presidents (EP President and group leaders) will decide on endorsing the decisions. To be appointed, the Executive Board members also need the support of a qualified majority in the Council.
Background
Based in Frankfurt, the new EU Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA) is tasked with coordinating the actions of national financial intelligence units and directly overseeing selected risky financial entities present in multiple member states.
