The European Commission has decided today to appoint Roser Domenech Amado as Director ‘One Health’ in its Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). This Commission department is responsible for EU policy to protect and promote public health and ensure food safety and sustainability and for monitoring the implementation of related laws. The date of effect of her appointment will be determined later.

Roser Domenech Amado, a Spanish national, has acquired deep knowledge of a broad variety of EU policies in the Commission, from external relations and humanitarian aid to health and food safety. Throughout her career, she has also developed strategic thinking capacity along with robust communication and leadership skills. She has also demonstrated her ability to elaborate and communicate creative policy initiatives in the face of multifaceted policy challenges, notably in the health field.

Roser Domenech Amado is currently Acting Director for One Health in DG SANTE in charge of steering and managing this new Directorate which brings together and exploits the synergies at the intersection of human health, animal health and the environment. Previously she served as Head of the Communication unit of DG SANTE and spent several years in the Commission’s communication department (DG COMM). Among other functions in earlier stages of her career, she was Member of the Cabinets of Neil Kinnock, Vice-President for administrative reform, and Manuel Marin, Vice-President for external relations. Prior to joining the Commission in 1992, she worked in the public sector and the academic field in Spain.
